Lannen Fall
For Boston quartet Lannen Fall, the key to success has only been discovered after heaps of hard work and dedication over a two-year period of time. In 2005, Jay Tagg (vocals, guitar), Ryan Mercedes (guitar, vocals), Dave "Horse" Horsman (bass, vocals), and Matt Wishnack (drums), came together to form Lannen Fall.
From the very beginning, the band has strived to create a sound all their own, and has succeeded in doing so. With infectious melodies, captivating lyrics, and an overall positive, energetic feel, the band has created a name for th emselves in the hearts of enthusiastic music fans. 173,000 myspace views later, the band had even won a highly coveted spot on the 2007 Honda Civic Tour, opening for Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is..., Plus 44, and Cobra Starship. Their dedication and love of touring has even led them to win the Ernie Ball Battle of the Bands competition, earning them a slot on the Vans Warped Tour in Mansfield, Massachusetts, as well as winning a contest from Absolutepunk.net that allowed them to play a slot at the Saints & Sinners Festival in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
Their debut EP Stories (Red Blue Records) which sold out at 1000 copies has garnered them close to 220,000 plays on myspace but the two new songs they've recorded with John Naclerio at Nada Studios this November have gotten them featured exclusively on Absolutepunk.net as well as on Purevolume.com. Constantly writing songs in hopes of recording a full length album, they're already climbing the charts on Purevolume.com. They're currently at number 8 and looking to go even further.
With this do-it-yourself standpoint, Lannen Fall has no intentions of slowing their output. Enjoying each and every minute of it, they plan to continue touring and making honest music for the energetic crowds of hot, sweaty kids who sing their lungs out at each and every show. For them, success is not measured in monetary value, but in the impact that they have on their listeners.
Check out Lannen Fall on tour starting this month!
LBM: Tell me a little bit about Lannen Fall. Where you guys from and how you all came together?
Ryan (guitar/vocals): Lannen Fall is from Boston, MA. I'm from Vermont originally but I live in Brighton with Matt now. All the other guys are from just outside of Boston.
Jay and Matt had played in bands together before and they wanted to start a new project with a new sound. Horse and I came into the fold because we were fans of Jay and Matt and we knew we could make something special.
Discribe your sound to anyone who hasn't had the prividge of hearing Lannen Fall yet?
You know that feeling you get when you're going down a huge drop on a rollercoaster? It's like that but with a better melody.
You guys have an ep out named Stories. How long has it been out and how has the response been so far?
Stories has been out for about 10 months now. We've gotten a really great response to it. It's like the 6 songs that got us started as a band so it's a good introduction to us, but we haven't given away all of our tricks yet.
Is there a full length album in the works?
We are in the early stages of a full length. There are no plans to record yet we just want to write the best album we can. We recorded 2 new songs so everyone could hear how we've changed and stayed the same over the past year. Expect more melodic rock and roll and a few suprises.
What do you guys have coming up in 2008?
There will be no rest for Lannen Fall in 2008. We'll be playing in the Northeast as much as possible, we'll definitely be on at least a few tours, and in between all of that we're going to finish writing and then record a full length.
You guys got a cool video on your myspace for Dead Air. Its a really great catchy song. Can you tell me a little bit about the song?
When I was young I used to listen to the radio a lot. I was lucky to have one of the country's best independent stations near me in Vermont so I got exposed to a lot of cool and different music. Lately every time I've turned on the radio it's the same stuff; old music that's been around for 10 plus years, those five songs that get overplayed on every station, or it's just uninteresting. One day I was thinking about how disappointing it's become since i was younger and I wanted to write a song about that.
I noticed you video was shot in a gym. are you guys big sports fans?
I would say we're pretty big sports fans. The biggest being Horse, somehow he finds time to follow his favorite teams in every sport. I find it hard when the band keeps us so busy.
Any crazy/stupid stories come to mind from high school gym class?
hmm. I'm probably not the guy to ask. My senior year I needed half a gym credit so my class was a handful of seniors and the rest were sophomores. We'd just hang out with the teacher and talk music while everyone else ran around.
Horse (bass guitar): Nothing too exciting except in my Junior year my friend and I pants a kid in class while we were playing basketball. he was wearing a pair of those tear-a-way pants so we each ran by and grabbed a leg, leaving him standing there in his boxers. he wasnt too happy about it.
Any last words you wanna tell everyone out there?
Talk to us! We're on AIM (lannenfall), buzznet, myspace, virb, purevolume. We really like to be in touch with our fans/friends as much as possible, we always want feedback, and just to talk
