03.04 | The Morning Light Release New EP Today and Announce Tour

The Morning Light release their EP, The Sounds of Love and prepare to go on Spring Break '08.

"Every year there's always the one release that comes out of nowhere and "wows" you. This year, that title belongs to The Morning Light" - AbsolutePunk.net

Huntington Beach, CA - The Morning Light release their debut record, The Sounds of Love today on Fearless Records. This six song EP will give you a glimpse into the lives of this five piece indie/pop band from Pittsburg, PA. Harrison Wargo explains, "The Sounds of Love EP is a collection of songs written about our experiences during our first year as a band. We really wanted to use melodies and chords to create a truthful and valid representation of what was going on in our lives at the time."

The Morning Light has been on a fast passed ride since they first began jamming in early 2007. During this year they wrote and recorded The Sounds of Love and began writing and recording their full length album. As this was happening the band grabbed the attention of the Absolute Management Group (All Time Low) and signed to Fearless Records (Plain White T's, Sugarcult, At The Drive-In).

With a great team behind them The Morning Light has had little time to relax touring regionally with All Time Low, The Cab and Just Surrender. They will continue this busy schedule as they head out later this month on their first full US tour with The Audition, Hit The Lights, Every Avenue, and Kiros on "The Spring Break 08 Tour." This tour begins March 18 and will continue through the end of April.

At the Disco, Cobra Starship, and Gym Class Heroes.

02.28 | THE EXPLICITS Set to Release Their Self-Titled Debut On April 8,2008

Jacksonville, FL - While her friends are consumed with college life, Renee Phoenix of the punk/metal band The Explicits was able to find time to close the books and record her self-titled debut, due out independently on Explicit Records on April 8, 2008. As a Junior at The University of North Florida, she somehow balances achieving her English degree with the demanding schedule that comes along with playing in an up and coming band. "The entire process was exciting for all of us," she describes of the recording of the album. "I'm a very impatient person so I couldn't wait for this project to be completed and blast it in my car."

Equal parts 70s punk, 80s punk and 00s screamo, The Explicits blend a frothy concoction that would make the Casualties pass out, Brody Dalle order something stiffer, and make Joan Jett a drinking buddy. Nonalcoholic beverages, of course (since the band are all under 21). With fierce and heavy guitars and rhythm section, Renee matches their intensity with her gravelly, otherworldly vocals, like a battle cry on the front lines. "During downtime in studio, we would all do these 80's metal screams as a joke," she says. "We all couldn't stop laughing."

Recorded with Florida-based buzz-worthy producer Stan Martell (A Fall to Rise, Burn Season, Down Theory), The Explicits is an album packed with feisty, metallic, adrenaline-drenched punk. From the power chord-driven epic blast of "Indestructible" to the upbeat classical punk rock distortion-filled "Static", this debut contains the sort of street credibility that seems beyond Renee's youthful 20 years. "I write what I feel like writing at the time instead of thinking, 'Hey, we're a punk band so we need to write a punk song, or a rock song, or whatever'," she says of the songwriting process.

She describes her favorite track, the speed-metal thrash of "Hollywood", in videogame terms. "I picked that one to be the ending track on the record because I found the final parts of the song to be epic in a way, like the end of a great battle. Either that, or I've just been playing way too much Warcraft for my own good," she pauses, and then smirks, retracing her steps. "I'm a nerd, just forget I ever said that."

The Explicits' self-titled record will be released April 8, 2008 on Explicit Records. A Spring tour is being planned.

Punk Goes Crunk will also have a presence this spring on thousands of cell phones. Mozes, an online mobile fan club, will be working with Fearless to create the largest text messaging community surpassing artists such as Rascal Flatts and Romeo.

New Found Glory - "Tennessee" by Arrested Development
"We chose "Tennessee" by Arrested Development because some of us grew listening to this record. He sang about important issues dealing with racism, poverty and many other political topics. Instead of just recording a guilty pleasure rap/pop song we decided to do something we were more passionate about."

Set Your Goals -"Put Yo Hood Up (California)" by Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz
"We chose to cover Lil Jon & The Eastside Boyz "Put Yo Hood Up (California)" for Punk Goes Crunk. It all started when we checked out the PYHU video on youtube and were immediately sold on the track. We knew however, if we were to pull off the song right, we would need some serious outside help. We would need someone who not only had an ear for punk music, but an ear for "club-driven hip-hop rhythms" too. That person was Cyrus Bolooki, drummer from New Found Glory. Trying to collaborate with conflicting touring schedules made this difficult. This track was recorded and mixed in various cities including Walnut Creek(CA), Miami (FL), , and Sydney and Adelaide, Australia. We are very happy with how the song turned out. It has proven to be our most "crunk" song yet!"

My American Heart - "California Love" by 2Pac
"We chose "California Love" because being that our band is from Cali, it only seemed appropriate to recreate the biggest "west coast" anthem anyone has ever heard. Recording the track was very experimental for us. We tried a lot of different instruments, samples, voices, etc."

Forever the Sickest Kids -"Men in Black" Will Smith
"We were left with no option but to chose the most crunk song and rapper ever which is why we recorded "Men in Black." It's also is the best movie ever that stars Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith."

Lorene Drive - "Hey Ya" Outkast
"Yo Yo when first had heard bout dis Punk Goes Crunk compilation right off the bat we wanted to cover "California Love". Then we caught wind dat My American Heart already claimed territory on it. We was like damnn we betta smoke these foo's. Then big D said "ayy homie lets do "Hey Ya" by dat crazy ass foo Outkast." Next thing you know we was all up in the LD studio pumpin up dat bass and cuttin tracks makin it so fresh and so clean clean... So pump up your system till that trunk starts rattlin!! Yall best recognize some real O.G. gangsters comin correct.
One Love

01.24 | MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO Readies Its Tenth Album, AUTOIMMUNE for 4/8!

San Francisco, CA - Seminal electronic band MEAT BEAT MANIFESTO (MBM) is gearing up for the release of its new album Autoimmune on Metropolis Records on April 8, 2008. Led by sound sculptor and producer extraordinaire Jack Dangers, MBM is continually evolving, staying three steps ahead of the music scene. Its tenth album pushes musical boundaries further than it has before, creating a masterpiece of dubstep and electronica. "I feel closest to the Dubstep trend," says Jack. "I feel like Dub has always been part of my sound".

Kicking off with the aural collage "International," Jack assembles vocal samples and arranges them artfully atop a funky dub sway beat, creating a tapestry that hints at the sonic textures further within. On "I Hold the Mic!," guest vocalist Daddy Sandy's toasting weaves in and out of MBM's futuristic soundscapes. The techno-tinged "Spanish Vocoder" pushes his early techno roots, propelling the dance beats into mesmerizing heights. Bay Area rapper Azeem takes control of the mic on "Young Cassius", a perfect melding of urban hiphop and electronic jazz. "Every record is different," Jack explains, "and in this record I focused on what I like to do versus what other people like me to do: beats, bass and distortion."

Meat Beat Manifesto's constantly evolving musical invention has generated a long string of influential futuristic classics in its 21 year-old career, including such tracks as "God O.D.", "Strap Down", "Psyche Out", "Helter Skelter", "Radio Babylon", "Edge of No Control" to "It's The Music". The single, "Prime Audio Soup" (from the album Actual Sounds and Voices) was featured in the sci-fi fantasy blockbuster The Matrix and on its platinum-selling soundtrack.

An acknowledged innovator in the electronic music scene, Jack Dangers continues to stretch sonic boundaries and influence new generations of sound activists. As a premiere remixer, producer and sound designer, he has played a seminal role in defining tomorrows' music today. Past and current Dangers' production/remixing projects include: Public Enemy, David Bowie, Orbital, Nine Inch Nails, David Byrne, Bush, Depeche Mode, Tower of Power, The Bee Gees and DJ Spooky & Dave Lombardo (Slayer). MBM also contributed the track "Suicide" to the top-selling soundtrack to Underworld: Evolution and Jack's remix of Tower Of Power's "What Is Funk?" was nominated for a Grammy in 2006.

With the release of Autoimmune and a national tour planned for Spring 2008 (their groundbreaking live performances are not to be missed!), Meat Beat Manifesto will propel electronic music into another dimension yet again. Known for its breathtaking multimedia performances, MBM is preparing for another sensory onslaught. "The live performance has become an integral component of my sound and production," Jack explains. "The question is how to do it better than last time." Something suggests that he will not disappoint.

01.15 | SHERWOOD HEADLINE THE STARRY NIGHTS & SALTY SEAS TOUR; STARTS JAN 31 IN ORANGEVALE, CA

Sherwood is preparing to embark on a two-month headlining U.S. jaunt on the Starry Nights & Salty Seas Tour with guests The Matches, The Higher, Houston Calls and We Shot the Moon.

Touring in support of their latest effort, A Different Light, an ode to SoCal music pioneers the Beach Boys, the San Luis Obispo four-piece is the first band signed to Myspace Records.

With nearly one million Myspace friends, the band headed south of the border to Mexico and set up shop beachside to keep those good vibrations rolling as they wrote and recorded new songs that eventually made up A Different Light. The result was a baker’s dozen worth of finely-tuned power-pop gems that run the gamut of styles and emotions. Singer Nate Henry’s emotive vocals stand out throughout the record, as does the band’s penchant for writing a good ballad (see “Home”), a hooky pop song (“Give Up!”), as well as a more introspective acoustic number (“For the Longest Time”). Recording with producer Lou Giordano (Taking Back Sunday, Sunny Day Real Estate, Husker Du), the polished, familiar Sherwood sound has been honed to pop perfection.

01.15 | NEW DANGER RADIO SONG NOW STREAMING ON MYSPACE; CATCH THEM ON THE PAC SUN TOUR WITH THE AUDITION AND ENVY ON THE COAST STARTING THIS WEDNESDAY; PUNCH YOUR LIGHTS OUT EP IN STORES JAN 29

The previously unreleased demo for "So Far Gone" is now streaming on the Danger Radio MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/dangerradio). The band will begin playing this new song live this week when they kick off the Pac Tour on Wednesday, January 16th in Raleigh, NC alongside the Audition and Envy on the Coast.

Danger Radio's Punch Your Lights O ut EP is now available on iTunes and will be available in stores on January 29th.

Having matured from a pop-punk indie band to a more groove-oriented, dancey rock group, the sextet from Washington state, with a fondness for hardcore funk, decided to simply play the type of music they like to listen to. Recorded at the Tank in Seattle with Tom Pfaeffle (Gatsbys American Dream, Daphne Loves Derby), the EP nods to everything from Michael Jackson’s Off The Wall to Stevie Wonder’s double-album epics of the 1970s, using disco hi-hats, MIDI samples and classical/jazz flourishes as accents - DR collectively has enough classical training to launch an orchestra.

The lead single “Party Foul” bounces and grooves with Latin-funk undercurrents while “Slow” drops in smooth-jazz piano to complement the squiggling guitar licks. Even at its edgiest, Danger Radio’s songs flow together like a funk/pop fan’s dream party mix.

Watch for Danger Radio's debut full-length to be released later this year.

01.11 | GREG LASWELL TO RELEASE NEW EP HOW THE DAY SOUNDS ON VANGUARD RECORDS MARCH 11TH

Santa Monica, CA - Lyricist/singer/multi-instrumentalist/producer Greg Laswell reveals another chapter in his musical and emotional journey with How The Day Sounds, a six song EP that is openly transitional from its spotlight on Laswell's elegantly expressive piano playing to the sense of healing and moving on that resonates throughout its course. How The Day Sounds will be released March 11th on Vanguard.

In 2006, Greg captivated listeners with his Vanguard debut, Through Toledo, an intimate account of a devastating experience in his life. With his intense lyrics, hypnotic-like vocals and sweeping melodies, it told a story of heartbreak, loss and longing. Through Toledo received critical acclaim and brought Greg comparisons to Radiohead, Beck, Coldplay, Jeff Buckley, Nick Drake, Ron Sexmith and Elliot Smith.

How The Day Sounds serves as a bridge between Through Toledo - it includes an expanded version of one album track and an outtake from the album sessions - and Laswell's next album, which will be released in summer of 2008. The songs on How The Day Sounds grasp the spirit of transition: "Days Go On," "Salvation Dear," "Embrace Me," with the title track representing the general character of this collection. "High & Low," one of Through Toledo's stellar tracks, makes an appearance with an expanded version including an orchestral backdrop. "What A Day," the final track (and Through Toledo outtake) sets a reflective tone.

01.09 | LESS THAN JAKE: Re-Releasing Four Classic Albums on March 18! New Album in Summer 08!

Gainesville, FL - 16 years in this hyper-transient music scene is practically unheard of, but don't tell that to punk/pop/ska band Less Than Jake, who aren't only soldiering on with planned new music for mid-2008 but re-releasing back catalogue with bonus material. But before they get started, they needed to take back control and return to the D.I.Y. spirit that embodies their music and their headspace. Voluntarily emancipated from their record deal with Warner Bros. recently even though they still had one more album in their contract, the band decided to create their own label Sleep It Off and continue their rich legacy, unhindered by major label requirements and sometimes questionable budgets. "It's an amazing concept that a band can actually participate in 360 degrees of its career," explains founding member/drummer Vinnie Fiorello. "After a decade an a half of being in the band, we are now our own bosses for real and the excitement of that can peel paint off the walls."

The first four re-releases out of the gate on March 18, 2008 will be Goodbye Blue And White, Pezcore, Losers, Kings And Things We Don't Understand and a DVD of Peoples History Of Less Than Jake. Packed with new artwork and a bonus DVD component for each of the albums, these will not only be must-haves for their legion of fans but a great introduction to the new breed of indie punk kids. "We wanted to start with Losers, Kings, And Things We Don't Understand, which was our first recorded material as a band," Vinnie continues. "These literally are some of the first songs we recorded together, and it seemed obvious that it should be one of the first releases on our newly started record label Sleep It Off. As a musician, the fact that I can help not only in creative marketing but release the actual audible history of our band on our own label is mind blowing. I think it's a great time for the Music Industry that, despite the lagging sales, you are allowed to write and rewrite the rules. These days, it's like the Old West, so to speak."

The excitement isn't just limited to the band and its fans however. Wonka Vision Editor-in-Chief Justin Luczejko reminisces, "In 1999, the Wonka crew drove in a Philly ice storm to see Less Than Jake at LaSalle University. We didn’t know the opening bands at the time (Lifetime and Weston – go figure) but they all showed up and played for about 25 kids who danced their hearts out ALL NIGHT long. At the time before I started Wonka Vision Magazine (11 years ago), I saw Less Than Jake in Philly more times than any other band. No one compared to their live show (throwing out Pez and water pistols?? Come on!). Wonka will support Less Than Jake till the day that they stop playing music. They are one of the hardest working, most energetic bands in rock today and they deserve every ounce of gratitude they earn."

Less Than Jake will be entering the studio in March to record their ninth album, due out Summer 2008. "We're holed up in Fort Hooker, our warehouse, finishing up songs and dodging the homeless that hang around the parking lot," he adds. "With the new record, we've been more focused on heavy horns and lots of melody. I personally look forward to some time in the studio. I miss that cabin fever feeling."

01.08 | THE A.K.A.s: Making Some Noise with Jello Biafra, Hawthorne Heights, Anti-Flag on 3/18!

Wants Everybody to Make Some Noise!
Album Out March 18, 2008! Featuring Special Guests Jello Biafra, Hawthorne Heights, Anti-Flag

Philadelphia, PA - For a band of upstarts with a keen ear for melody and the right amount of punk attitude without being snotty, The A.K.A.s (Are Everywhere!) have more in common with their true punk brethren like The Clash, Buzzcocks and Gang of Four than their current peers. But that's not to say they're revivalists... Not. At. All. With both feet firmly planted in 2008 and an audio rearview mirror whose objects are indeed closer than they appear, The A.K.A.s take the punk spirit of three chord machine gun rhythms and infuse them with organ, shout-along choruses and more adrenaline than all those steriod-laden American Gladiators combined.

Their freshly-minted album Everybody Make Some Noise! on their new label, Metropolis Records (release date: March 18, 2008), is a 12-track tour de force of fist-pumping anthems that would make the Dead Kennedys proud. And in fact, head DK Jello Biafra felt the band so honor-worthy that he bestowed a spoken word, carny-styled intro to "Everything Is a Commercial". Other guests include JT Woodruff from Hawthorne Heights and Chris #2 from Anti-Flag. "We have a really bizarre set of guest appearances on our record," says vocalist Mike Ski. "Having three people that would never be in the same room together appear on our album and each bring something incredible to the songs is a proud moment. From the breathtaking melody of JT, the angry snarl of Chris #2, to the unsettling narrative by Jello, it's enough to make everyone from a 15 year old pop girl to a 30 year old punk rocker smile."

01.04 | MATINEE CLUB: UK Electropop Buzzband To Release US Debut 2/19!

LONDON, ENGLAND - Building on an electropop buzz that's growing quickly in the UK, Matinee Club are unleashing their debut album The Modern LP on February 19, 2008 in the US through Ninth Wave Records. Conjuring images of faded glamour and the city’s seedy underbelly, this London-based trio adds warmth to synthpop's otherwise cold and hard exterior. A sexy and danceable melange of indiepop and electro, The Modern LP shoots a nod and a wink to influences as diverse as Blondie, Duran Duran, The Cure and Kraftwerk without pandering to retro bandwagon-jumping.

From the tinkling intro of the opening track "Industry," The Modern LP launches into cathartic synth washes that re-imagines swirling at the Limelight or The Bank in the 80's. The pop majesty of "Jane Falls Down" revels in a Berlin-meets-Wolfsheim swirl while planting both feet firmly in 2008. And not many bands can take a very recognizable cover like David Bowie's "Modern Love" and do it justice, but Matinee Club not only accomplish that but add their own personal spin on it without tainting the Duke's version and make it their own.

The 1940’s styled blonde-bombshell front woman Emma Cooke (who is a very recognizable UK TV and film star on her native telly) complements the rippling synths with her rich, dramatic vocals, which build to catchy climactic choruses that dominate the album. Formerly known as The Modern, their nome de plume when they were a five piece band, Matinee Club collects several singles from The Modern period and adds in new material from the current trio of Emma (vocals), Nathan Cooper (keyboards and vocals) and Chi Tudor-Hart (keyboards and vocals). Having risen from the ashes of several bands and having three UK Top 40 singles already, Matinee Club have finally found the optimum line-up and sound. With a love of burlesque glamour and theatrics, the band create electro pop accompanied by pitch perfect pop vocals, Matinee Club are ready to take the world by storm.
