The AKAs
The Whiskey A Go-Go, Hollywood, CA - Feb. 13, 2008

Reviewed by: Sam Westre

Wednesday night at the Whiskey A Go-Go on the famous Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Tonight I'm here to see The AKAs from Philly. In a room surrounded by a crowd of monochrome rockers and anxiously awaiting The AKAs, I find myself humming the theme song to the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. "In west Philadelphia born and raised..." Suddenly the lights dim and the AKAs hit the stage like a ravenous band of blood thirsty jackals! From the moment the music hit my already damaged ears, I had forgotten my task of photographing the AKAs performance and completely lost myself in their performance and sarcastic stage banter. Their infectious chorus lines had be bouncing around uncontrollably and singing along to songs I'd only heard a few times before the show. The AKAs also performed a hand full of cuts from their upcoming cd which sealed the deal for me... this band I was witnessing before my eyes has now become one of my favorite new bands!

Be sure to catch them on tour with Wednesday 13 and Creature Feature through March 7th. Their new album "Everybody Make Some Noise" hits stores March 18! Do yourself a favor and pick that CD up!
